The Italian antitrust authority has imposed a fine of 255.8 million euros on Ryanair. The competition authorities accuse the Irish airline of abusing a dominant market position in connection with the booking of flights by third-party providers.

An investigation revealed that Ryanair began examining ways to obstruct so-called travel agencies and block them from making bookings at the end of 2022, the competition authorities wrote in a statement. These measures were enforced from April 2023. The airline had "exploited significant market power".
Ryanair announces appeal
For example, Ryanair had technically prevented third-party providers from combining its own flights with other flights and insurance. In April 2025, Ryanair then enabled the implementation of the booking system again, so that "effective competition" would be permitted again if "properly implemented".
Ryanair described the decision as "bizarre" and untenable. The airline cites a Milan court decision that is said to have confirmed its business model. "This decision and the fine are not legally sustainable," the company stated.
