Despite crises and economic uncertainty, people still like to travel. The outgoing head of the Jungfrau Railway Group, Urs Kessler, has high hopes for the Indian market, as he told the news agency AWP on the fringes of the Swiss Economic Forum (SEF).

"We are well positioned as a tourism destination in the long term, especially in the Asian markets. Asia will become even more important for the success of the Group," said the manager of the excursion destination with the Jungfraujoch as its main attraction.

India is developing very well with a rapidly growing middle class. And the Chinese and Japanese markets, which are strongly anchored in the group travel business, are also gradually recovering from the coronavirus downturn.

Continued strong demand in the US

According to Kessler, business with US tourists is still going well after setting records in recent years - despite growing political and economic uncertainty in the country. Demand from the USA is still good. Switzerland has become more attractive as a result of the strong inflation in the USA and the stable inflation trend in this country.

"The different price trends have led to US tourists increasingly traveling to Europe and also to Switzerland for their ski vacations," explained Kessler. Although Switzerland is still a country with high prices, it also offers high quality.

Jungfrau Railways got off to a good start in 2025, said Kessler. In the first four months, visitor numbers on the Jungfraujoch rose by 8.7 percent compared to the previous year. In 2024 as a whole, 1.06 million guests traveled to the "Top of Europe" excursion destination at 3,454 meters above sea level. Only in 2018 were there more.
