The Jungfrau Railway Group transported more guests to the Jungfraujoch in the first half of 2025 and increased its revenue. The bottom line was a record profit.
At 472,700 people, 2.6 percent more guests came to the Jungfraujoch from January to June than in the same period last year, as the Group announced on Thursday. The Bernese Oberland railroad operator also managed to increase its expenditure per guest. Traffic revenue for the Jungfraujoch amounted to 59.7 million francs - 4.9 percent more than in the previous year.
For the so-called Experience Mountains - including the Firstbahn, Harderbahn and Mürrenbahn - transport revenue even rose by 18 percent to 20.8 million francs. In addition, the 2024/25 winter season saw the second-highest number of visitors in the last ten years.
Taken together, transport revenue rose by 8.2% to exceed the CHF 100 million mark for the first time, reaching CHF 107.2 million. Including restaurants, souvenir stores and other sources of income, the tourism company increased its operating income by 5.7% to CHF 149.9 million.
Operating expenses also increased - but by 5.3 percent, not as much as income. Operating profit (EBITDA) rose by 6.3 percent to 65.9 million Swiss francs. The bottom line for the first half of 2025 was a record profit of 37.0 million - 7.2% more than a year ago.
The Bernese Oberland company thus performed better than expected: according to the AWP consensus, analysts had expected lower earnings. EBITDA and net profit were also slightly above expectations.
The tourism company presented its business figures for the first time under new CEO Oliver Hammel. He took over operational management in mid-June, succeeding Urs Kessler, who handed over operational management after 38 years with the company.
He attributes the positive development in guest numbers to the strategy of making better use of the months with fewer visitors. More guests came from the USA, India and South Korea in particular - with China also continuing its upward trend.
According to Hammel, the trend continued in the two following months of the first half of 2025, July and August - even though July was very rainy in parts. The international focus and the high level of diversification in the long-distance markets also proved their worth. This makes the Jungfrau Railway Group less dependent on the weather.
