This was announced by the national government on Wednesday. It had previously appointed Gerber as the Federal Council's delegate for Ukraine. The long-standing member of the cantonal government of Jura and Vice President of the Conference of Cantonal Governments will be responsible for bundling Ukraine aid within the Federal Administration from January 1, 2025, according to the statement.
The "Ukraine country program" is intended to enable Ukraine aid to be implemented from a single source. It should ensure targeted and effective support and be based on the seven Lugano Principles.
In his new role, Gerber reports to Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Economics Minister Guy Parmelin. Organizationally, the post is attached to the FDFA General Secretariat. Gerber will be given the title of ambassador.
