The April value of 97.1 points was confirmed. The barometer thus remains below its medium-term average value of 100 points, as the ETH economists explained on Friday. The outlook for the Swiss economy remains correspondingly subdued.
The indicator is still at the upper end of analysts' expectations, who had forecast a value between 95.0 and 98.5 points.
The set of indicators for the manufacturing sector in particular has shown positive developments, the report continues. Meanwhile, the demand-side indicators of foreign and consumer demand included in the economic barometer are under pressure.
Within the manufacturing sector, the indicators for the general business situation in particular developed positively. Improved prospects are also visible in the indicators for export activity, production activity and the competitive situation.
In the sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry, the indicators for chemical and pharmaceutical companies and the wood, glass, stone and earth sectors, for example, showed a more favorable outlook. However, the textile and metal industries are under pressure.
