Delayed take-offs and landings at Zurich Airport are to become more expensive for airlines. The airport has submitted an application to the federal government for an increase in noise surcharges. The aim is to reduce noise, particularly in the late evening.

The airport has applied for an increase in noise surcharges for take-offs after 11 p.m. and an additional fee level for take-offs from 11:15 p.m. onwards. This is intended to create an incentive to take off as quickly as possible in the event of delays, the airport announced on Tuesday.

Landings between 23:15 and 23:30 are also to become more expensive. In addition to the noise surcharges at night, the daytime noise charges are also to be increased.

The decision will be made by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), which is now holding a hearing until February 10. The latest figures from December 2024 showed that an increasing number of residents were affected by aircraft noise in the evening.
