Storm Water level of the Rhone in Valais and Vaud on the decline
The water levels of the Rhone and its tributaries have slowly fallen in the cantons of Valais and Vaud over the course of Saturday morning. However, the alert level and the special situation are being maintained as the water levels are still very high.

This is also because further thunderstorms are expected later in the day, the Valais cantonal police announced at midday on Saturday. Increased vigilance is therefore still required. The water masses are receding relatively slowly, especially in the tributaries of the Rhone.
For the Rhone, the peak of the flood was reached in the night from Friday to Saturday after midnight. A discharge of 819 cubic meters per second was reached at 02:00 in the morning in Branson, for example. According to the model of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), there is still a high flood risk of level 4 for the Rhone.
In Chablais in the canton of Vaud, the most critical point in connection with the flooding of the Rhone was also exceeded during the night from Friday to Saturday. There, the fire department and cantonal police monitored the area around the Rhone throughout the night. The situation eased somewhat on Saturday morning. According to the police, no damage to property or personal injury was reported.
The maximum level of the Rhone was reached there late in the evening with a flow rate of almost 1200 cubic meters per second, as Olivia Cutruzzola, head of the communication cell of the Vaud cantonal command staff, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request.
