Limmattalbahn runs again after vehicle repairs

Operations on the new line 20 were disrupted for five weeks: because two of eight vehicles were so damaged after collisions with a car and a truck that they could no longer be used, AVA thinned out the timetable.

During the week, the Limmattalbahn only ran between Spreitenbach and Schlieren instead of the usual route between Spreitenbach and Altstetten, much to the annoyance of commuters. Thanks to this shortening of the route, a stable and reliable service could be guaranteed, according to the press release. At the weekend, the train ran along the entire route.

As the AVA states in its press release, the restrictions are due to two drivers of road vehicles who disregarded a red light and severely damaged the sides of two 20-cylinder vehicles. One of the two vehicles is now operational again. The other is still being repaired by the manufacturer Stadler Valencia.

The AVA records both accidents and near-collisions, as the Aargau-based transport company writes in its press release. It is constantly checking whether improvements such as new barriers or other signaling are necessary. AVA announces rapid implementation, but also points out that any measures can only be presented "in the coming months".
