"The fire at #Hayes is now under control but we will remain at the scene throughout the day," the fire department announced on Platform X. Fire investigators would begin their investigations.

The airport was closed until midnight for safety reasons due to the power outage. According to the British news agency PA, around 1,300 flights were affected.

Airport: problems to continue in the coming days

Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airline. "We expect significant disruption in the coming days," said an airport spokeswoman.

An update will be provided as soon as more is known about the resumption of flight operations. "We know this is disappointing for passengers and we want to reassure them that we are working as hard as we can to rectify the situation," the spokesperson said.
