The jesters lined the streets and alleyways of the city in large numbers and in sub-zero temperatures. At Kapellplatz, they listened to the sounds of the Guuggen musicians marching past and tried to catch the oranges thrown into the crowd.
Güdismontag is the Wey guild's day of honor. The guild, whose heraldic animal is a frog, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1925 because the carnival tradition in the town was in danger of dying out. The business people from the Wey quarter managed to revive the carnival.
In the afternoon at 2 pm, the big Wey parade will march from the Luzernerhof across the Seebrücke to the Neustadt. A total of 45 numbers have been announced.
