A woman who claimed to be the missing Madeleine McCann has been charged in the UK with stalking the girl's family. According to the PA news agency, the 23-year-old is accused of visiting the family home twice in May and December last year.

She is also alleged to have harassed parents Kate and Gerry McCann with a letter, phone calls and voice and WhatsApp messages. Madeleine's siblings are said to have contacted her on Instagram.

Has the woman given details of the allegations?

The Polish-born woman was arrested at Bristol Airport on Wednesday. She appeared in court on Friday but, according to the media, gave no details of the case and was sent back into custody. The court ordered a hearing for April 7.

As reported by the BBC, the woman had claimed on social media in 2023 that she was "Maddie", who disappeared in Portugal in 2007. A DNA test then disproved the claim.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from a vacation apartment in Praia da Luz almost 18 years ago. Photos of the then three-year-old girl went around the world. The case has still not been solved.
