According to an international ranking, the best restaurant of 2025 is located in Peru. The restaurant "Maido" in the Peruvian capital Lima tops the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world published by British publisher William Reed.

Lunch guests in the elegant restaurant reacted enthusiastically to the news and shouted "Maido, Maido!". The Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant was founded 16 years ago by chef Mitsuharu Tsumura. "The fusion of flavors at Maido is spectacular," 33-year-old Valentina Mora told the AFP news agency on site.

The next two places on the list were taken by a Basque restaurant in Spain and a restaurant in Mexico City.

The "50 Best" list was first published in 2002 and quickly established itself as an international alternative to the French restaurant guide "Guide Michelin". According to the publishers, more than a thousand "independent experts", including chefs, specialist journalists and restaurant owners, take part in the vote for the annual ranking of the 50 best restaurants in the world.

The list is repeatedly criticized, especially by French chefs, for lacking transparency. At the same time, the list has a reputation for recognizing the latest trends in gastronomy earlier than the French "Guide Michelin".
