The majority of Swiss grocery stores state their prices correctly. 83% of the stores stated the detailed prices and over three quarters the basic prices of the goods on offer correctly, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) announced on Monday.

This was revealed by the results of this year's Seco inspection campaign as part of the Price Disclosure Ordinance. Three quarters of the prices displayed in shop windows were correct. In the case of incorrect price information, some goods were not marked with the price or the price was not clearly legible.
Most of the incomplete or incorrect price information was found in the basic price information. This means, for example, the price per liter or per kilogram. This affected just under a fifth of the stores examined.
Most of the missing price information was found in shop windows, as Seco also reported. This applied to eight percent of the inspected stores with shop windows. In less than one percent of cases, administrative fines or criminal charges were imposed. These were filed if the provider concerned failed to state the prices correctly despite being given a deadline to rectify the defects.
The aim of the inspection campaign is to raise awareness among suppliers of the importance of price disclosure as an instrument of fair competition and consumer protection. A total of 2505 food stores were examined. 613 of these stores had product offers in the shop window. The checks took place from mid-April to mid-October.
