In the course of the investigation, a 43-year-old man has now been arrested and charged with animal cruelty, among other things. Officers seized several weapons during house searches. The police did not provide any information on the possible motive. The man was released on bail until a court date scheduled for January.
In Australia, indigenous animals - i.e. those that existed there before human settlement - are under special protection. In response to the very high kangaroo population in some places, the authorities issue licenses that allow the animals to be culled. However, such licenses are subject to strict conditions - any kind of cruelty to animals is strictly prohibited.
