Chinese customs have confiscated more than 100 snakes that a traveler wanted to bring into mainland China in several trouser pockets.
According to the authorities, the man was caught by officials in Futian harbor at the border between the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong and the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. During the inspection, the customs officers found six taped-up cloth bags in his trouser pockets containing numerous colorful snakes.
According to the customs authorities, the count revealed that the man was carrying 104 snakes. The officials assigned these to five different species, including corn snakes and triangle snakes, neither of which are found in China, but in North and Central America. A published video showed the man trying to pass through the undeclared goods aisle. It also showed the customs officers examining six large bags containing the various snakes.
China's legislation prohibits the import of non-native animals. Anyone who violates this will be held accountable, the report continued. However, the authorities did not say what punishment the man would face.
