Following the gruesome killing of three relatives of a BBC sports reporter, British police arrested a suspect on Wednesday. The 26-year-old was discovered injured near his home in the Enfield area north of London and is being treated, police said on Wednesday. He is suspected of killing the wife and two adult daughters of reporter John Hunt with a crossbow.

The women, aged 25, 28 and 61, were discovered seriously injured in a house in Bushey, northwest of London, on Tuesday evening, police said. They died on the spot despite rescue attempts. The BBC confirmed that the deceased were the family of John Hunt, the main racing commentator on BBC 5 live. Hunt's voice is known to millions of Britons through his coverage of the world-famous Grand National and Derby horse races.

A large police force searched for the suspect in Enfield, around 50 kilometers from the scene of the crime. Members of the public were asked not to approach him. Police did not comment on how the suspect was injured, but emphasized that they had not fired any shots. No one else is still wanted in connection with the crime. The BBC reported that Clifford had left the British Army after a short period of service in 2022.

The Daily Mail and other media reported that Hunt himself had discovered the fatally wounded when he returned home from a report in Lingfield Park, south of London. In a message to staff, the BBC wrote of an absolutely devastating incident. The broadcaster will stand by Hunt in every possible way. The new Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, said she would be kept informed of the "truly shocking" act.

Mark Chapman, a colleague of Hunt's and main presenter of BBC 5 Live, struggled to hold back tears as he expressed the shock and pain of all the staff. "We have a football match to show you tonight... and we'll start preparing for that shortly, but this has been a heartbreaking day," he said ahead of the broadcast of the European Championship semi-final between England and the Netherlands. Everyone at the broadcaster was thinking about Hunt.

The police did not say whether the suspect had any connection to the women who were killed. However, the media reported that he had once been involved with one of Hunt's daughters. One of the investigators, Jon Simpson, said he believed the attack was not random and that the suspect knew the family.
