A power outage paralyzed large parts of the Czech Republic and the metropolis of Prague on Friday. At midday, the subway lines were temporarily at a standstill, as were many streetcars and trolleybuses, as reported by the CTK news agency. Shortly after midday, however, they were gradually able to resume operations. In the city of Liberec, the streetcars were out of service.

In Prague, the fire departments were in constant action to free people from stuck elevators. The power grid operator CEPS was initially unable to name the cause of the outage. For reasons that are still unclear, part of the network was without power. However, intensive work is being carried out to rectify the problem, it said. The Ministry of the Interior has set up a crisis team.
