McDonald's Switzerland announced on Tuesday that there will be four to six additional restaurants in 2026. The company will thus continue to rely on a dense network of restaurants in the future, it said. This has been growing since 1976, when the first restaurant with 25 employees opened in Geneva. The network now comprises 190 locations in 21 cantons. Over 90 percent of these are operated by 45 independent licensed partners.
New branches are already under construction, including in Dulliken (SO) and Horgen (ZH), or are in the approval process. McDonald's had already opened seven additional restaurants last year - in Brugg (AG), Bülach (ZH), Châtel-St-Denis (FR), Küssnacht (SZ), Moutier (JU), Schaffhausen and Zurich Enge. At the same time, the stores are being further modernized: 23 of the existing restaurants were renovated in 2025.
Purchasing mainly in Switzerland
The company has not disclosed how much McDonald's sells in Switzerland for several years. However, the purchasing volume is quantified. According to these figures, the fast food giant purchased food worth 250 million francs in 2025, compared to 235 million in the previous year.
According to the company, more than 85 percent of its food came from Swiss suppliers. This includes around 6900 farms, among others.
Since the American fast food giant set up shop in Switzerland, the range of products on offer has also increased significantly: from eight in the beginning to over 80 today. In addition to classics such as the Big Mac, local creations such as McRaclette and Rösti Fries have been added. According to the press release, around 275,000 guests are served in the restaurants every day.
According to McDonald's, it employs over 8,400 people in Switzerland. The proportion of women in restaurant management is 45 percent and 50 percent in management. Currently, 43 apprentices are being trained as system caterers with a federal diploma. A further 36 apprenticeships are planned from August.
