The Security Policy Committee of the Council of States (SIK-S) has proposed by 7 votes to 5 that a corresponding motion by Councillor of States Werner Salzmann (SVP/BE) be adopted, as reported by the parliamentary services on Thursday evening. Next up is the small chamber.
The motion demands that members of the armed forces should once again be able to be issued with pocket ammunition. In 2007, the Federal Council gave assurances that it would make the issue of a pack of ammunition dependent on the security policy situation, the motion's author explains. This situation has changed dramatically since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
In the fall of 2007, the Federal Council decided at the behest of Parliament that pocket ammunition would henceforth be stored by the army.
