The German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is planning a downsizing in Switzerland: the logistics center in Wetzikon in the canton of Zurich is to close at the end of January 2027. More than 60 employees would be affected.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, this is due to changing market conditions and technological change in the automotive industry. These have made it necessary to consolidate the Europe-wide logistics network. In future, Swiss service partners and major customers will be supplied with spare parts from the nearby logistics center in Reutlingen in southern Germany.

Around 60 employees would be affected by the planned closure. They were personally informed of the intention today. The company has initiated a consultation process.

Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that a social plan would take effect in the event of a closure. Among other things, this provides for severance payments, early retirement options, outplacement counseling and job search support.

A small number of tasks could also be relocated to the Schlieren site or to other European countries. A final decision on the closure is still pending.
