According to its head of sustainability, Migros will fail to achieve the targeted increase in sales of sustainable label products by the end of the year. The aim was to increase sales of sustainable products to 35 percent, according to an interview with Tamedia.

"We are working on it," said Christopher Rohrer in the interview published on Wednesday. He heads the "Sustainability and Economic Policy" directorate, which is part of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives. With label products such as Bio Suisse or IP Suisse, Migros has a group turnover of around 26 percent, broken down to the supermarkets at around 30 percent, said Rohrer.
With its minimum requirements, such as the use of high-risk raw materials like coffee beans, fair working conditions and the protection of endangered animal species, Migros is already sustainable on average in the industry, he said.
In addition to the Group restructuring initiated last year, Migros has also revised its sustainability strategy, as it announced on Tuesday. By the end of the year, the supply chains are to be completely deforestation-free, Rohrer cited one example.
Consumers also have a responsibility
Migros also wants to provide full information on the climate impact of its own-brand products by 2030, as outlined in the strategy and the interview. Rohrer does not want this to be understood as an abdication of responsibility. "However, we believe that consumers and all other stakeholders must also take on some of the responsibility," Rohrer told Tamedia.
Migros still wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain to net zero by 2050. According to the information provided, the so-called Strategy 2030 is now binding for all companies in the Group. Migros will work out exactly what this means for them in the coming months.
