Migros is pressing ahead with its corporate restructuring: the industrial company Elsa, which belongs to the group, is selling its French subsidiary Idhéa to the French cold sauce manufacturer Gyma.

Elsa intends to focus on dairy products and cheese in Switzerland, as Migros announced on Wednesday. Gyma will take over the production facility at the Hochfelden site in Alsace as well as all of the approximately 150 employees. The sale will not have any negative consequences for the workforce, it said.

The process is currently being finalized, a Migros spokesperson told the news agency AWP on request. Further details would be announced as soon as the deal was confirmed.

Unknown sale price

Migros did not provide any information on the sale price. "We do not disclose any figures," said the company spokesperson.

Migros subsidiary Elsa acquired a majority stake in Idhéa in 2016. The company produces cold sauces and condiments for the catering, industrial and wholesale sectors in the Swiss and European markets. The company was formed in 2013 from the merger of two companies, La Case aux Épices and Saveurs et Sauces.

Sauces remain available at Migros

The company will continue to supply Migros supermarkets. Migros' positioning in the sauces market will remain unchanged and the range will continue to be offered, the retailer announced. Migros declined to say whether a long-term supply or production contract has been agreed with Gyma and for how long.

The sale is part of the Migros Group's concentration on its core business, which was announced at the beginning of 2024. Under the new CEO Mario Irminger, Migros is realigning itself and focusing on retail, financial services and healthcare. Divisions that no longer fit were sold or closed - including Bike World, Do it + Garden, Melectronics, Micasa, OBI, SportX, Hotelplan, Mibelle, Misenso and Bestsmile.
