Fall into the Giessbach Falls in Bern Missing man recovered dead - toddler remains missing

Three people have been missing in the Bernese Oberland since the weekend. These include a man and a toddler who fell into the Giessbach Falls. The man has now been found dead.

On Sunday, shortly before 4.30 pm, the cantonal police received a report that a man and a small child had fallen into the Giessbach Falls in Brienz. According to current information, a family with two small children were on a hike when one of the children and the father fell into the Giessbach Falls for reasons still to be clarified.

As soon as the report was received, an extensive search operation was launched. A person who happened to be present told Blick that the mother was totally distraught. "The woman was screaming the whole time: 'Where can I find my family again?" According to him, the people were very close to the waterfalls when the accident occurred. The Bern cantonal police would not comment further on this statement.

As part of the two major search operations, an intensive search for the missing persons was carried out from both land and water. On Tuesday morning, the man was recovered dead under difficult conditions. Various services of the Bern cantonal police and several members of the Interlaken Alpine Rescue Station and Swiss Alpine Rescue with canyoning specialists were deployed.

The search for the toddler continues.

On Saturday shortly before 1.30 p.m., the cantonal police also received a report that a woman had fallen into the Iffigbach in Lenk in the Simmental valley. According to the information available so far, the woman had set off on a walk with a companion when she fell into the Iffigbach for reasons still to be clarified. A search was immediately launched for the woman.
