The Patrouille des Glaciers 2026 is not yet fully booked. The army is able to secure a larger number of participants for the ski touring race between Zermatt, Arolla and Verbier VS. 99 places are still available.

The race was originally fully booked at the end of September. More than 1,300 teams were approved by the responsible command - including a "record proportion" of 10 percent women, the Patrouille des Glaciers command announced in a press release.

The precautions now taken would make it possible to authorize 99 more patrols, decided the commander Yves Charrière. "I have also taken this decision in view of the 2024 cancellations. Those who are undecided and those who have not yet had time to put together a patrol can benefit from this," he was quoted as saying. The extraordinary registration window is now open until December 30.

The race will take place from April 13 to 19. There are two routes to choose from, one from Zermatt to Verbier with 57.5 kilometers and 4386 vertical meters, as well as one from Arolla to Verbier with 29.6 kilometers and 2200 vertical meters.
