The mountain biker who was discovered two weeks ago in a critical condition near the railroad tracks in Erlenbach in the Simmental canton of Bern has died. The 38-year-old succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Wednesday.

The man was discovered at Erlenbach railroad station on November 13 and was flown to hospital by helicopter in a critical condition. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continued on Wednesday.
According to the police, the man was lying next to a bicycle on the railroad tracks when an approaching train initiated emergency braking and collided with the bicycle. The victim was not hit by the train. According to initial findings, the man was riding a mountain bike and fell several meters down a slope.
