The introduction of a property tax on second homes in connection with the abolition of the imputed rental value has met with rejection in the areas most affected. The government conference of the mountain cantons speaks of a "half-baked sham solution".

The cantons should be able to introduce a tax on second homes. This is intended as a replacement for the abolition of the imputed rental value. The people and cantons will decide on this on September 28.

However, the mountain cantons are firmly opposed to the change in the system of residential property taxation decided by parliament, as they announced on Friday. The special tax for second homes would raise numerous new legal and demarcation issues. This is irresponsible and unfair, criticize the mountain cantons.

In addition, the abolition of the imputed rental value would create false incentives and lead to economic damage. The Conference of Cantonal Governments also calls the second home tax "not a satisfactory solution to the financial impact of a system change".
