A mountaineer fell to his death on the Bietsch Glacier in Valais on Sunday. The man had set off with two other climbers in the early morning with the aim of climbing to the summit of the Wilerhorn.

At around 4.45 am, the three climbers left the Bietschhorn hut, as the Valais cantonal police reported on Monday. At the transition from the Bietschjoch to the Bietsch Glacier at an altitude of around 3150 meters, one of the three fell into the depths for unexplained reasons. Rescue workers were only able to determine his death on site.
