Car industry Musk has deposited almost 236 million Tesla shares for loans
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has pledged a large portion of his Tesla shares as collateral for personal loans. According to the electric car manufacturer's updated annual report for 2024, Musk pledged almost 236 million shares for this purpose.

At the current price, this many shares would be worth around 66 billion dollars (54.8 billion Swiss francs). However, the loans that Musk secured with these shares must be drastically lower. The annual report also shows that he is allowed to use Tesla shares for a maximum loan volume of 3.5 billion dollars - and according to his own statements, he complied with this limit.
Musk was credited with a total of 714.75 million Tesla shares in the annual report as at December 31, 2024. He already held just under 410.8 million of these shares, while around 304 million were listed as options to which he was entitled but which had not yet been exercised. Following an investor lawsuit, Musk must fear for a large share package promised in 2018.
300,000 dollars for Musk brother's company
The information provides at least a small insight into the finances of Musk, who is by far the richest person in the world with an estimated fortune of more than 300 billion dollars. It was already known that he takes out loans secured by shares for personal expenses. Musk also has a large stake in the aerospace company SpaceX and he owns the AI company xAI.
The annual report also lists transactions between various Musk companies. For example, xAI bought battery storage from Tesla for a good 198 million dollars in 2024 and for a further 37 million dollars by February of this year. Tesla paid the drone company Nova Sky Stories, run by Musk's brother Kimbal, around 300,000 dollars to organize an air show.
