Elon Musk accuses Apple of discriminating against his apps and is threatening to take the iPhone company to court. The tech billionaire believes his platforms are at a disadvantage, especially against the ChatGPT developer OpenAI.

Above all, Musk criticized Apple for not including the applications of the online platform X and the AI chatbot Grok in editorially compiled recommendation lists in the App Store. He also claimed on X that Apple's behavior ensured that no other AI company apart from OpenAI could reach the top spot in the download charts on the Apple platform. His AI company xAI will therefore take legal action.

OpenAI is a partner of Apple for artificial intelligence on the iPhone. Musk therefore speaks of a "clear breach of competition". Meanwhile, users of X pointed out that the AI apps Deepseek and Perplexity had climbed to top positions in Apple's App Store - after the agreement with OpenAI. There was initially no reaction from Apple.

Lawsuit against rogue advertisers

This would not be the first time that Musk has tried to force other companies to treat his companies better by filing lawsuits. After he took over the X predecessor Twitter and softened the content rules, many advertisers left the platform. They feared that their ads would appear alongside extremist posts.

X later took several companies and an industry group to court, accusing them of colluding to harm the platform. The outcome of the proceedings is still open.
