X has come under increasing criticism in recent days. Until now, users have been able to ask the AI chatbot to generate revealing images of people - including children. There are a number of examples on the platform where the AI is asked to sexualize normal images. Grok often complies with the request.
If you ask Grok on X to generate or edit an image, the bot responds: "Image generation and editing is currently restricted to paying subscribers." This is followed by a link to take out a subscription. According to the British newspaper "The Guardian", the function is no longer available to most X users.
On Thursday, the EU announced its intention to take the next step in its investigation into Elon Musk's company. The European Commission has asked the US company not to destroy internal documents relating to Grok, but to keep them until the end of the year, a spokesperson said. There are doubts as to whether X is complying with European digital laws.
Already shocked with praise for Hitler
On New Year's Eve, the chatbot apologized for creating and sharing a picture of two teenage girls "in sexualized outfits". "This was a failure of our safety precautions and I apologize for any harm caused," Grok wrote on X. In the summer, Grok had already shocked people by praising Adolf Hitler.
Criticism of AI has also come from the UK. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the deepfake images of children as "disgusting". The British media regulator Ofcom asked X for an urgent statement on Monday.
