The National Council is calling for the Federal Council to take a more decisive approach to European security policy. The reason for this was the discussion on a declaration in favor of an independent European security policy and an active role for Switzerland.

This declaration was submitted to the National Council by its Security Policy Committee. The National Council adopted it on Thursday, largely against the votes of the SVP parliamentary group, by 115 votes to 66 with three abstentions.
In this declaration, the National Council recommends that the Federal Council examine further possibilities for security policy cooperation with the EU, for example within the framework of the European Defense Agency.
Center-left representatives in the Council called for the Federal Council to take a more decisive stance against autocratic tendencies. SVP representatives said that the declaration was useless. Above all, the Swiss army should be strengthened.
