Switzerland is represented in Geneva by Federal Councillor and Environment Minister Albert Rösti. The head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) was expecting a new draft text. Switzerland is of the opinion that it would be "unacceptable" to leave Geneva without a result, Rösti told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday - before the conference went into extra time.
At what time on Friday the conference is due to continue initially remained open. The aim is to negotiate a legally binding treaty to curb the huge amounts of plastic waste that are destroying ecosystems and endangering people's health. The treaty is to cover the entire life cycle of plastic, from production to waste management.
