The food company Nestlé is recalling another batch of its infant milk "Beba Optipro1". The measure is being taken due to the detection of the toxin cereulide.

The recall is being carried out in cooperation with the responsible cantonal enforcement authority, as announced by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) on Tuesday. Nestlé had already recalled batches of infant formula in several countries at the beginning of January as a precautionary measure.

Numerous recalls

In the meantime, numerous manufacturers of infant formula, including Nestlé, Danone and Lactalis, have recalled infant milk in more than 60 countries due to the risk of cereulide contamination. The Swiss manufacturer Hochdorf was also affected. According to the industry, the background to this is a contaminated oil from a supplier in China that is used as an ingredient in the milk powders.

According to health authorities, cereulide is a toxin produced by bacteria that can cause sudden nausea, vomiting and stomach pain 30 minutes to six hours after ingestion. The toxin is extremely heat-stable. It is not even destroyed by cooking, frying or pasteurization.
