However, the deal is likely to face strict scrutiny from the antitrust authorities, and not just in the USA. Netflix is the world's largest streaming provider.
The media had previously reported that the streaming provider was part of a group of companies that had submitted bids for the takeover of Warner Bros. In addition to the famous film studios, Warner Bros Discover also includes the streaming service HBO and the news channel CNN.
The Group had originally planned to split up: One company for streaming and film and series production and one for traditional television. However, when several takeover bids were received in October, the split-up plans were put to one side.
Leading Hollywood representatives are critical of a possible takeover of Warner Bros, as they fear that Netflix would largely restrict the cinema business of future productions. Star director James Cameron, recently said on "The Town" podcast that a takeover of Warner Bros by Netflix would be "a disaster".
