The weather service expected further high readings at the weather stations over the course of the day. Shortly after midday, temperatures were close to the 20-degree mark in many places, for example in Tänikon TG at 18.4 degrees and in Basel at 18.2 degrees.
The new record in Delsberg is significantly higher than the record set in 2023, Meteonews wrote on the X platform. The measurement data has been collected since 1959. Other possible record candidates are the Föhn valleys. In Vaduz in the Principality of Liechtenstein, for example, the current record for November is 23.7 degrees.
The weather services are also forecasting mild temperatures for tomorrow, Friday. These are "exceptionally high for this time of year", wrote Meteonews on its website. The zero degree limit was between 3300 and 3500 meters on Thursday.
By the beginning of next week, the weather will become gloomier and colder. On Monday, a cold front will finally move across northern Switzerland. The snow line is expected to drop below 1500 meters, according to the report.
