According to Beijing, high-ranking representatives of both countries have met for a second round of negotiations in the tariff dispute between the USA and China. Vice head of government He Lifeng began his talks "with the American side" in London.

This was reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua on Monday. The US had announced in advance that its delegation would include the Secretaries of Finance and Commerce, Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick, as well as US President Donald Trump's Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer.

Trump imposed punitive tariffs totaling 145 percent on China at the beginning of April, and Beijing responded with high counter-tariffs. At talks in Geneva in mid-May, the two countries agreed to significantly reduce the surcharges for an initial 90 days to allow for negotiations. Last Thursday, Trump held the first telephone conversation of his second term in office with China's head of state Xi Jinping.
