The US embassy itself announced Gingrich's appointment on the online platform X on Thursday evening.
The Catholic was US ambassador to the Vatican from 2017 to 2021, during Donald Trump's first term in office. Gingrich comes from the US state of Wisconsin and is said to have Swiss roots and Polish roots on her father's side.
She describes herself as an entrepreneur, author, documentary filmmaker and musician. She is the managing director of a multimedia production and consulting company, as the US State Department wrote on the occasion of her nomination. With her company, Gingrich has produced several documentary films and published a series of children's books.
Gingrich originally studied music. In 1988, she began an internship as a congressional staffer in Washington, D.C., and remained as bureau chief for the House Committee on Agriculture until 1995. It was during this time that she met her husband Newt Gingrich.
The couple are considered close allies of the US President in Washington. Newt Gingrich had already supported Trump early on in his first election campaign and was one of his closest advocates.
