Following the cancellation of the traditional New Year's Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate, there will still be celebrations at the Berlin landmark this year. This was announced by the governing mayor of the German capital, Kai Wegner.

A DJ party is planned from 10 p.m. and a seven-and-a-half-minute fireworks display, which will be broadcast live on ARD from midnight. Wegner said at the presentation of the plans in the town hall that it was important that there were also images from Berlin in addition to those from Sydney and New York. Free tickets for around 20,000 guests will be available from December.
ZDF will be broadcasting its New Year's Eve show with well-known artists not from Berlin as before, but from Hamburg. Wegner had already announced at the end of July that there would no longer be any subsidies from the federal state of Berlin for the usual New Year's Eve celebration at the Brandenburg Gate. The private organizer then cancelled the show, which was considered Germany's biggest New Year's Eve party.
