Loose trim strips are causing Tesla's Cybertruck electric pickup truck to be recalled in the USA. The wide metal strips on the edge of the windshield and above the doors are attached with adhesive material and can become detached.

So far, 151 Cybertruck drivers have reported the problem as a warranty claim, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, Tesla is not aware of any accidents or injuries in connection with this.

As all Cybertrucks could potentially be affected, the recall also reveals that Tesla produced a total of almost 46,100 vehicles of the model from November 2023 to the end of February this year. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had previously held out the prospect of building up to 250,000 Cybertrucks per year over time.

Screws as a solution

The trim strips are now also to be attached with the help of screw connections. Tesla also resorted to screws when the decorative cover of the accelerator pedal became detached and threatened to jam.

Overall, this is already the eighth recall campaign for the Cybertruck. However, some of these were solved by a software update, such as the delayed transmission of images from the reversing camera.

With the angular Cybertruck, Tesla wants to break into the large pickup market segment that is popular in the USA. This segment has so far been dominated by vehicles with combustion engines. Musk has already admitted that Tesla would probably have to modify the vehicle for a market launch of the Cybertruck in Europe.
