Twelve people, including nine children, have been killed by a devastating fire in southern Kazakhstan. Three people were rescued unconscious from a burning house.

This was reported by the Tengrinews news agency, citing the disaster control authorities. The site of the disaster, Algabas, is a village in the very south of the Central Asian country; the nearest large city is the Uzbek capital Tashkent, 100 kilometers away.
According to reports, the flames completely engulfed a two-storey residential building. Neighbors said that many guests had been in the house after a party, Tengrinews reported. From the Kazakh capital Astana, President Kassym-Shomart Tokayev ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire. He also promised help to the bereaved.
