Nine more people are in the very center of the Bavona Valley in the village of San Carlo, explained Renato Pizolli, communications officer of the Ticino crisis unit, on Saturday morning at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

This zone had been classified as "safe" by the crisis unit. In addition, a hot spot has been set up there by the Ticino cantonal police, Pizolli added.

The evacuations from the upper Maggia Valley were still underway on Saturday morning. Pizolli noted that it was not yet possible to estimate how many people would be flown out in total. Some of the people living in the endangered zones would move to relatives or friends at short notice. The evacuations began on Friday.

After the storms last weekend, nine people were reported missing. Six of them could only be recovered dead, three people are still being searched for.
