On average, employees in Switzerland have received a significant pay rise this year. This is above the rate of inflation, which should leave more money in their wallets.

According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), nominal wages are likely to have risen by 2.0 percent this year, as was reported in a press release on Tuesday. The FSO estimates the data on the basis of cumulative wage data. In an initial estimate in September, wage growth was still calculated at 2.3 percent.

Economists are predicting average inflation in the range of 0.1 to 0.3 percent for the current year. It is therefore becoming apparent that wages will also increase in real terms this year - i.e. taking inflation into account.

In 2024, nominal wages rose by 1.8 percent; taking annual inflation of 1.1 percent into account, real wages rose by 0.7 percent. In the two previous years, however, wages had fallen in real terms.
