The court found that the promises of climate neutrality by 2050 could have misled consumers, as the company was simultaneously producing more oil and gas. The complaint came from Greenpeace France, Les Amis de la Terre and Notre Affaire à Tous. They spoke of an "important precedent".
TotalEnergies defended itself by pointing to investments in renewable energies and spoke of an instrumentalization of the law.
