Oil prices have risen sharply following the major Israeli attack on Iran. The price of a barrel (159 liters) of Brent crude for delivery in August climbed by around 13 percent overnight to 78.50 dollars, its highest level since January.

In the course of trading, the Brent price gave up some of its gains, but still rose by 6.28 US dollars to 75.64 dollars. The price of a barrel of US WTI crude for delivery in July also rose by just over nine percent, or 6.42 dollars, to 74.45 dollars. In the meantime, the price had risen by 14 percent.

Israel attacked several targets in Iran during the night. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), one of Iran's most important nuclear facilities was also attacked.
