One person has been killed and another injured by gunfire in Menden in western Germany. The perpetrator is on the run, according to security sources. The police are searching for a 40-year-old man.
The person who was fatally shot died despite resuscitation attempts. It was initially unclear how seriously the second person was injured.
The area around the crime scene was cordoned off. Police and emergency services were present in large numbers in the Sauerland region. Nothing was initially known about the background to the crime.
