The pilot of a helicopter has died in a crash on a hotel in Australia. According to the rescue service, a man was critically injured by bent parts of the propeller in the hotel pool.

The helicopter crashed onto the roof of a hotel in the city of Cairns in the north-eastern state of Queensland, police said on Monday. Cairns is known as a starting point for excursions to the Great Barrier Reef, which is popular with travelers.

According to the police, the impact on the building caused a fire and hundreds of hotel guests had to be evacuated. According to rescue workers, bent parts of the propeller landed in the hotel pool. Two bystanders were taken to hospital. The responsible transport authority launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
