In Switzerland and neighboring European countries, the Migros subsidiary succeeded in gaining market share and attracting many new customers despite declining trading volumes, according to a statement issued on Monday. Net sales from deliveries and services climbed by 17 percent to 2.9 billion Swiss francs.
The expansion of the portfolio by almost a quarter to 8 million products contributed to the strong growth. Among other things, this was achieved through the integration of many new marketplace retailers from Switzerland and abroad, Galaxus continued. The fact that many prices were lowered last year and brought into line with European levels is also likely to have had a positive impact on sales growth.
In percentage terms, the strongest growth was reported in French-speaking Switzerland and the canton of Ticino with a new customer share of 10 percent. However, as in 2023, customers from the Principality of Liechtenstein placed the most orders per person per year. In total, over 4.5 million people shopped at Galaxus in 2024, 1.2 million of them in Germany, Austria and the other EU country markets.
According to the press release, products from the "Supermarket" and "Beauty & Health" segments were particularly popular in Switzerland, where sales exceeded those of the previous year by over 30 percent. In Germany and the European markets, Galaxus was able to increase sales by 27 percent. However, at 362 million euros, platform sales are still low in an overall comparison. Demand in the international business was particularly strong for cell phones, notebooks and PC components.
