The demonstration was very colorful and characterized by a cheerful atmosphere. Flags and balloons in the relevant rainbow colors dominated. No incidents were reported until later in the afternoon.
Basel-Stadt has a gender equality law that goes beyond the binary system of men and women, which was applauded by the rally participants. Nevertheless, queer people are still exposed to discrimination and violence, according to the call for the rally.
The demonstration marched from Theaterplatz across the Rhine and then along the Rhine to the harbour area. The event had also been closely coordinated with the police in view of possible disruptions by anti-queer groups, according to the organizers.
