A special unit of the Swiss Armed Forces flew to the festival site with paragliders for the opening of the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival. It replaced the Patrouille Suisse, whose exclusion had previously caused discussion.
Five paragliders from the Swiss Army's parachute reconnaissance unit flew to the ESAF festival site in Mollis GL on Friday morning and brought the hammer for the tapping of a beer keg to OC President Jakob Kamm.
The paragliders replaced the Patrouille Suisse, which had previously been disinvited from the festival, as Kamm explained in an interview with Keystone-SDA. The airplanes had already been dispensed with in the spring for reasons of sustainability.
Kamm was heavily criticized for this. He received over 70 hate mails about it, he continued. He then expressed his delight at the paragliders, which made for astonished faces with a Swiss and Glarus flag in their luggage.
