The Swiss parahotel industry has drawn a positive conclusion for the past winter season 2025/26. At the same time, the outlook for summer business is promising.

Despite the challenges posed by exchange rate uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, the winter season in the parahotel industry was largely stable compared to the previous year. Turnover even increased slightly, as reported by the IG Parahotellerie Schweiz association on Tuesday.

The number of overnight stays, on the other hand, remained stable at the previous year's level, it added. The business development of the six partners Reka, Swiss Youth Hostels, TCS Camping, Swisscamps, BnB Switzerland and Interhome was recorded.

Reka and TCS Camping with growth

Reka recorded an increase in turnover of 4 percent. January was particularly strong. In contrast, March developed below expectations, according to the press release. At TCS Camping, overnight stays at the six open facilities increased by 5 percent. Swisscamps also reported a solid winter season.

Swiss Youth Hostels saw an increase in overnight stays of 0.4 percent. A strong December in particular was responsible for the positive development. By contrast, the months of February to April fell short of the previous year's figures.

Good booking situation for the summer

According to the association, the upcoming summer season is shaping up well. The booking situation suggests "significant growth". TCS Camping has recorded around 14 percent more bookings than in the previous year. Domestic demand in particular is developing well. This is because Swiss travelers are increasingly spending their vacations in their own country in view of the geopolitical uncertainties.

Reservations at Reka are also well up on the previous year, with an increase of 9%. Turnover is expected to increase by 6 percent, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Swiss Youth Hostels reported an increase in bookings of 3.9%. This is mainly due to the new youth hostel in Geneva, which will open in mid-June. BnB Switzerland expects stable to slightly growing demand, driven in particular by bikers, hikers and families.

Vacation apartments in demand in the mountains

Vacation home broker Interhome expects strong domestic demand, especially for stays in the mountains and in the countryside. Interest in beach vacations in the neighboring countries of Italy and France is also continuing.

"The Swiss parahotel industry is proving to be a stable pillar of Swiss tourism, even in a challenging environment," said Janine Bunte, President of Parahotellerie Schweiz, in the press release. Domestic demand and innovative offers form the foundation, she continues.
